One Night

One night my dreams were broken in exchange for the love that I'm longing for. A part of me knows that this might be the beginning of a new path of unknown and an ending of the climb that I'm used to.

In just one night, the harmony halts the melody. Spotlights were turned off. No more voices can be heard in a theater that usually packed with glamour. Finally, the curtains closed without a final show.

One night I suffered an unbearable pain. It was the time that I thought my life would end. A suffering that I never imagine. I was about to give up; but, people continued to cheer me up. After a period of screaming, a familiar sound starts crying. It was the most beautiful music I heard. My son was born. It was midnight.

A colorful evening sets the mood of everyone. It signifies to relax and to party. A moment when nobody doesn't want to be lonely. Singing and dancing were the only vibes that you can feel in celebration of a wonderful year. It was my turn to entertain. I am trembling. I haven't gone back to my career ever since that I turned my back. That was already my past. It was now my queue to start. Lyrics comes naturally out of my mouth. Looking at everyone, they're all amused. They all cheered and clapped. But, my eyes were glued to my greatest fan smiling and waving inside his cradle. As I hit the last note, I knew my sacrifices were all worth it. Once again, I became a star even just for one night.

Catch Me!

At last after 3 months of not watching movies in the cinema, I finally contributed to the entertainment industry. I was so eager to experience once again witnessing a story to unfold in the big screen. There's still a different kind of thrill when you see a film in a theater. I know I've let several worthy films passed without checking on it. Hopefully, I will not be able to miss it in the future.

I decided to watch "Catch me I'm in love" since I've seen most of Sarah Geronimo's movies before. More importantly, I do want to help (seriously, in my own little ways) the Philippine movie industry.

The story revolves with Roan, a staff of a non-government organization, which is an advocate of providing assistance to our less fortunate fellowmen. One day she had an embarrassing encounter with Erick, a happy-go-lucky son of the President of the Philippines, who happened to be the man of her dreams. But when faced with reality, the couple dealt with one's insecurity over popularity that served to be the test of their relationship.

The movie was able to deliver what was expected on a typical Romantic-Comedy genre. It has the element of laughter, excitement, light drama and of course, romance. At some point in the movie, the couple was able to successfully carry out some "kilig" factor necessary for a specific scene. Sarah was very natural in making some situations funny on the film. I also admire how Gerald revealed the reason why he was distant to his father, which certainly gave clarity to his character.

However, I find the plot haphazardly done. The writers all most tailored the film based on the previous movies of Sarah and John Lloyd Cruz, which were box office success. I guess, they are just more after of financial triumph. I'm referring to a common storyline where a rich guy, who initially strict and cold fell in love with a not so well-off girl and then they will immediately insert a conflict of the story. Some scenes were already done by other movies or TV perhaps. If I remember correctly, the proposal scene where in the a group of kids turned their back and they formed the sentence "Will you be my girlfriend?" was already used by a specific film or teleserye, which I couldn't remember. The dinner scene where Sarah was having difficulty eating I think some shellfish is comparable to what happened to Julia Robert's in "Pretty Woman" and Anne Hathaway in "Princess Diaries." The film has some resemblance to "Notting Hill." The difference is Hugh Grant's character was played by a woman while Julia Robert's personality was portrayed by a man. This is evident during the break up scene where one can no longer handle the fame of her better half. They could have delivered this scene in a more effective way by lessening the dramatic element, which dragged and destroyed the moment. I know that going separate ways is a very hurtful situation; but, it's not always that there is a need for someone to cry, especially if the actor could not show it convincingly. Like "Notting Hill", they all most have the press conference scene where someone will profess his love publicly. Good thing, they were able to put a twist on it. I didn't like the location on how they end the movie, which took place again to infamous roads or streets in Manila. This strategy was already used several times especially for movies of Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga like "You are the one", "My big love" and "You got me." They could have used a different place to add value to the film.

Overall, the movie was entertaining. The scriptwriter could have come up with a more creative and interesting story that will not only give enjoyment to its audience but will also show the craft of the actors that they have on their bucket. They may used some scenes on other films; however, they could have improved or surpassed the execution so that it will be memorable that can totally move their viewers to their seat and utter "Catch me I'm in love."
